Moving again

Bism Illah wa assalaamu alaykum wa Rahmatullahi wa Barakatuh.

It is a common thing here to have to move, even if you are comfortable in your home. We know of people whose landlord just told them that they wanted the place for someone else and they had to leave. Our landlord informed us that he wants to build on our roof, so by April we would have to move. In any case, we found several very nice apartments here in Aziziya, all within SAR 20,000 to 25,000. However, we ended up renting a brand new, 5 bedroom, 3 bath apartment for SAR 25,000. It has a two entrances, a men's majlis, women's majlis, kitchen, and 5 rooms that can be used as bedrooms or, in our case 3 bedrooms, a school room, and a play room. Al hamdul'Illah.

  1. Mashallah tabarakallah. Were you guys unable to find another villa? Inshallah we are coming to madinah soon we wanted to get a villa because our children are used to the outdoors but from the sounds of it its not easy to do especially on a budget.

Do you know if it is still possible for a sister to get a job and iqma from one of the schools you mentioned in a previous post? One sister has a BA and CELTA(TESOL) but no masters the other sister has BA and Masters but no CELTA so university jobs are not an option.

Barikallahu fikum for the beneficial blog

  2. Wa feeka Barak Allah. No, there were no villas available in this area and none that we know of available within our price range. Friends have just moved into a villa behind Sultana Street (in town) but their rent is around 40,000 riyaal. Villas in Iskan only come available when someone moves out and are also around that price range, although there are always those that cost more!

No idea about those schools bringing women in to teach and giving iqaamas. Most just look for women already here with their families and hire them locally. There is a women's college, TQ College of Excellence that is hiring women from UK/USA on a single status visa to teach. I don't think they need a Masters degree. We do not endorse it, but I am informing you as the recruitment ads are easily found on the Internet.

As salaamu alaykum wa Rahmatullahi wa Barakatuh.

Hi, came across this blog yesterday, and is proving to be a valuable source of information to me- thanks.

I will probably be moving to medina in a few months time from jeddah, with my wife and kids to join from the UK shortly after that.

Have a few queries for yourself and the people here-

Where can I get as much info as possible about accommodation in medina
Ideally apartments/villas - new and clean ( don't mean to be rude),
What are the best areas- what are the price ranges.

How is schooling in medina- bit concerned about that, or would home schooling be best?
How is the medical services in medina?

How easy would it be for my wife to make friends there- so as to keep company.
What do the females expats do there to keep occupied.
What family activities does everyone do for quality family time - like going out with the family regularly.
What entertainment is available for kids- my 3 boys are hyper active

Any advice would be much appreciated.

    Thank you all

    Best regards
    S. Ahmed

  7. Salam alaykum wa rahmatullahi wa barakatuhu sister,

how are you? I am glad that I came across your blog. Masha'Allah it is great. My husband just got accepted into the Islamic university of Madinah and Insha'Allah if he is successful in applying for my visa, I'll be joining him in a few months. Just wondering how much a new and modern 2/3-bedroom apartment near the university will cost per year? Can we get a safe and nice place for SR18,000? What about buying a car? How much would an early model but reliable 4WD/SUV that has done less than 150,000 KM cost? Jazak'Allahu khayr sis.

  9. Mashallah great blog. I too would love to be in Madinah and have the same questions as S. Ahmed about living (residence), schools for kids, medical facilities, things to do for expats, etc. What is the best area to live in Madinah?
